Prestigious Area of magnificent villas

Ferndale Road was previously known as Harrington Road when B.F. Christlieb of Long Lake filed a survey with the Minnetonka Town Board to establish the first legal wagon road in the township, according to Happenings in Wayzata by E.W. Meyer.  The road began at the farm of J.S. Harrington and ran to South Watertown trail which apparently was about a mile west of Wayzata at that time.

Business tycoons

Business tycoons began moving to the Ferndale area sometime after 1878 and included notable people such as Charles M. Hardenbergh, George H. Christian who bought Point Lookout and the island off the Point, Fred C. Pillsbury, John S. Pillsbury, William G. Northrup, James F. Bell, Edmund J. Phelps, Albert C. Loring, and George W. Porter to name a few.

Location, Location, Location

Ferndale Road South and Ferdale Road West run along homes in Orono and Wayzata that overlook Wayzata Bay homes for sale on Lake Minnetonka and ends at Shoreline Drive and Country Road 15. Ferndale Road North runs through Orono and Plymouth up to County Road 6.  Ferndale Woods Road is also located in this area off of Bovey Road.

Party likes it’s 1923

One example of a fourth of July party on Ferndale can be found in the Minneapolis Journal which detailed the sports, picnics, dances and fireworks offered by F.B. Wells during a Dutch Treat Costume Party to 250 young people who paid $2 each for the privilege of attending the midsummer frolic.
